Since it was created in 1952, UNITAB, the European association of tobacco growers, has been gathering national or regional associations representing the whole European tobacco growing sector. The national associations gather on two major axles:

The stability and revenue generating ability of the Hungarian tobacco growing sector has suffered a significant decline at the end of the 1990s, its future seemed to be hopeless at a time therefore to represent their interest defence, the Hungarian tobacco growers have founded the National Association of the Hungarian Tobacco Growers (MADOSZ) on October 21, 1999 in Nyíregyháza.
